Duties

Special Education/General Education Paraprofessional

Specific assignment may vary as student needs change.  Many paraprofessionals will support students in a variety of different roles within a school day.  Some examples of duties below, as well as other duties as assigned:

Individual Student Care (as applicable)

  • Assist student off and on bus at the beginning and end of day.
  • Accompany student to lunch and assist in feeding, when necessary.
  • Assist student in toileting, transfers, and hygiene issues as necessary.
  • Maintain documentation logs on activities/behaviors of students as directed by the teacher.
  • Become familiar with various technology and equipment based on student need.

Supporting Instructional Duties

  • Implement teacher designed review/reinforcement activities.
  • Assist all students in the classroom during centers, small groups, etc. as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist in modifying materials from the general education classroom as necessary.
  • Collaborate with related services and teaching staff.
  • Support use of technology devices, augmentative communication, and adaptive materials.
  • Support differentiated instruction.
  • Accompany and assist students in related services, specials, lunch, recess, and/or general education classes as needed.
  • Data collection support.

 

 

Qualifications

Applicants must hold the appropriate certification for working as a paraprofessional as listed by ISBE and ROE #17.

Salary/Benefits

Starting wage for the 2024-2025 school year will be $16.50 per hour.  Additional insurance benefits after 60 days.
