Champaign Unit 4 Schools Elementary Librarian

Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING AND METHODS
A. Organizes materials for maximum use by students and staff.
B. Develops written plans based on District curriculum and objectives in conjunction with teachers.
C. Communicates objectives and purpose of lesson.
D. Relates instruction to the stated objectives.
II. COMPETENCY IN SUBJECT AREA
A. Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter in lesson presentations.
B. Responds knowledgeably to students' questions on the subject matter.
C. Uses grammatically correct English in verbal and written communications.
III. MANAGEMENT
A. Assumes responsibility for overall discipline in the Media Center.
B. Plans and instructs the Media Center staff in their duties/responsibilities.
C. Allocates budgeted funds appropriately.
D. Selects appropriate materials according to the District’s library material selection policy.
E. Keeps staff informed of new and available materials where possible.
F. Maintains Media Center atmosphere appropriate to the activity taking place.
IV. STAFF AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Is punctual.
B. Maintains and submits accurate records as required by law, Board policy, and administrative guidelines.
C. Follows building and district rules and procedures in performing assigned responsibilities.
D. Collaborates with teachers and other personnel to provide appropriate learning opportunities for students.
E. Handles contacts with parents/guardians in an appropriate manner.

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Library Information Specialist Endorsement

Salary/Benefits

Compensation

  • The salary for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Federation of Teachers, which includes a different level of compensation for positions designated as "hard to fill." The full salary schedule and the Hard to Fill positions list are available on our website. The District currently gives experienced teachers unlimited experience credit for service outside the District. New teachers may request up to $2,000 as a salary advance to help with relocation expenses or other needs. 100% of a teacher's contributions to TRS are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board currently pays 100% of a teacher's employee-only health, dental, and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. There are many opportunities for teachers to earn substantial additional compensation (stipends, differentials, extra duty pay, etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer.
  • The District offers an additional $1,500 annual stipend for Teachers who hold a national board certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Individuals hired into a 1.0 FTE position in the CFT bargaining unit after October 1, 2023 are eligible for a $1,000 Sign-On Bonus. Details can be found on the Human Resources page of our website.
