Permanent Teacher Substitute Position

Duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Report daily to the assigned administrator for coverage assignments.
  • Deliver lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher and ensure instructional continuity.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
  • Take accurate attendance and follow all school procedures and policies.
  • Manage student behavior in alignment with school expectations. 
  • Provide basic instructional support and clarification of assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with staff regarding classroom activities and any issues that arise.
  • Adapt quickly to different subject areas, grade levels, and classroom settings.
  • Supervise students in non-instructional settings (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, study halls) as needed.
  • Assist with school-wide duties such as testing supervision, in-school suspension, or coverage during planning periods. 
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff to support a safe and respectful school climate.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) for the particular position as required by the State.
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate with students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to supervise and monitor students, including the ability to move throughout the classroom and school facilities, observe student behavior, and respond appropriately to classroom and safety needs.

Salary/Benefits

Compensation for Permanent Substitution Position is based on Appendix D (a) (5)  of the Agreement between the Board of Education, O'Fallon Township High School District No. 203 and the O'Fallon Federation of Teachers, O'Fallon, Illinois 62269 (Collective Bargaining Agreement). This position is eligible for health/dental/vision/life insurance, 403 (b), paid-time off, and tuition assistance.
