Speech Language Pathologist

Duties

  • Complete designated follow-up procedures for students referred for special education services.
  • Evaluate and diagnose speech and language disorders in students.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and review the Individual Education Plan (IEP) of each student on the caseload, at least annually.
  • Work with parents in all aspects of their child's education program and facilitate improved communication skills.
  • Collect and maintain accurate and descriptive records on all students on the SLP's caseload.
  • Provide appropriate speech-language screenings and diagnostic services.
  • Collaborate with general education and/or special education educators on an on-going basis.
  • Refer students to other specialists as needed.
  • Assure all procedural safeguards are afforded to students and their parents.
  • Provide effective therapeutic service according to established program guidelines and through appropriate service delivery models.
  • Administer, on an on-going basis, evaluations of student progress toward mastery of established goals and objectives specified in the IEP.
  • Provide information concerning the nature, purpose and outcome of speech/language therapy services to students, parents and professionals.
  • Consult with classroom educators, as requested and appropriate, concerning the educational needs of students.
  • Participate in school staffings and screening processes, as appropriate.
  • Participate in professional growth activities through participating in educational meetings, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas with district staff.
  • Ensure that each student on the caseload has necessary evaluation records in his/her temporary file.
  • Complete quarterly progress reports on each student on the caseload.
  • Supply progress reports to school personnel and to parents as necessary and requested.
  • Complete appropriate reports for local, state, federal and educational agencies.
  • Adhere to school district policy, administrative procedure, local board policy and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language PathologyValid
  • Illinois State Board of Education certificate
  • Valid Illinois license issued by Illinois Dept. of Professional Regulation
  • Experience in public school setting
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA)
