SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing leadership and administrative support for the Junior High School and assisting with overall Junior/Senior High School operations. The Assistant Principal / Junior High Principal promotes a positive school climate, supports student achievement and behavior expectations, supervises staff and student activities, and assists in the implementation of district policies, procedures, and educational programs.

DUTIES

School Leadership and Administration

  1. Assists with the daily operation and administration of the Junior/Senior High School.
  2. Provides leadership for Junior High School academic programs, activities, and student services.
  3. Assists in the implementation and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  4. Supports the development and maintenance of a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
  5. Assists in establishing and enforcing student conduct and attendance expectations in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  6. Coordinates and supervises student activities, assemblies, and school functions.
  7. Assists with student scheduling, registration, and academic planning processes.
  8. Maintains accurate student discipline, attendance, and related records.
  9. Assists with state reporting and other required district documentation.

Staff Supervision and Support

  1. Assists with supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff in accordance with district procedures.
  2. Supports staff professional growth and instructional improvement efforts.
  3. Assists with substitute teacher coordination and daily staff coverage needs.
  4. Promotes effective communication and collaboration among staff members.
  5. Participates in interviews and hiring processes as assigned.

Student Support and Discipline

  1. Supports implementation of student discipline policies and restorative practices.
  2. Assists students, parents, and staff in resolving conflicts and concerns in a fair and professional manner.
  3. Maintains visibility throughout the building during the school day and at school events.
  4. Assists with supervision of arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, hallways, and other assigned duties.
  5. Works collaboratively with counselors, teachers, and support staff to address student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  6. Coordinates interventions and supports for students experiencing academic or behavioral difficulties.

Communication and Community Relations

  1. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  2. Communicates effectively with families regarding student progress, behavior, and school programs.
  3. Assists in coordinating school communication and outreach efforts.
  4. Represents the school district at meetings, activities, and community events as assigned.

General Duties

  1. Assists with emergency procedures, safety planning, and crisis response efforts.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of student and personnel information.
  3. Works cooperatively with administrators, staff, and community members.
  4. Attends meetings, workshops, and professional development activities as required.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree required.
  2. Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative endorsement or Principal endorsement.
  3. Administrative experience preferred.
  4. Experience working with junior high or secondary students preferred.
  5. Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, student discipline, and school operations.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively in an appropriate and courteous manner.
  9. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

SCHEDULING

Hours may vary based on district needs, including evenings and weekends.

 
 

Qualifications

Valid Illinois License. 

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range: $70K-- $85K, Board paid TRS.
