Duties
The Media Specialist/Librarian will be committed to empowering every learner by building a welcoming, engaging library environment. This position is responsible for fostering a love of reading, supporting students in developing essential research and digital literacy skills, and collaborating with staff to enhance classroom learning.
Major Roles:
- Provide engaging library/media lessons aligned with literacy and technology goals.
- Foster joyful reading and guide students in selecting age-appropriate materials.
- Teach foundational information literacy and responsible technology use.
- Partner with teachers to support classroom instruction and schoolwide literacy initiatives, ensuring the incorporation of appropriate library, media, and technology materials into daily teaching.
- Maintain an organized library environment that supports all students.
- Manage daily library media center routines, including evaluation and selection of library media materials, ordering, circulation, and management of instructional equipment.
- Participate in the development and implementation of technology plans, including identifying and supporting new technologies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Learning and Teaching
- Develop a thorough knowledge of subject area and grade-level curricula and promote information literacy across the curriculum.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate library media and technology skills into instructional content.
- Build and maintain expertise in a wide range of resources and technologies and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Evaluate, acquire, and promote resources that meet the learning needs of all students.
- Model effective use of books, multimedia, and other information resources.
- Design and implement programs that encourage reading for enjoyment and information.
- Guide and assist students and staff in the effective use of media and technology for learning.
Information Access and Delivery
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
- Select appropriate traditional and digital resources and equipment to support student learning.
- Coordinate the acquisition, organization, and circulation of library media materials.
- Organize materials, resources, and physical space to support learning.
- Maintain current knowledge of curriculum needs, student needs, and instructional and informational resources.
- Develop and oversee an ongoing collection development and evaluation process.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and regulations related to access, copyright, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ethical and responsible use of information and technology.
