Director of High School Core Curriculum

Duties

Description: 
To provide leadership in curriculum and instruction and in developing a systematic approach to assessment and professional learning as it relates to student achievement, teacher development and program design and implementation at the high school level.  Much of that leadership involves modeling professional expertise and facilitating change for the benefit of students and student learning.  The director also has an important management function to keep the assigned curricular program and instructional design organized and functioning efficiently and effectively.  This will include working in collaboration with other administrators, teacher leaders, and the community to establish expectations for teaching and learning for the organization.


Job Summary:

  1. Provide leadership in developing a curricular expertise and instructional focus at the high school level. Leadership includes responsibility to collaborate with middle and elementary directors to guarantee a viable and guaranteed district-wide instructional program.
  2. Provide leadership in developing and implementing the instructional practices and curriculum that will maximize student achievement in all elementary schools.
  3. Oversees and directs the assigned curricular areas, including:
    1. Textbook and instructional materials, including review and selection;
    2. Curriculum articulation, both horizontal and vertical;
    3. Curriculum development process, including needs assessments or audit of current status, revising, monitoring;
    4. Best practices for instructional delivery;
    5. Committee development, facilitation and follow-up;
    6. Communication with all stakeholders;
    7. Professional development planning, implementation and follow-through; and
    8. Uses and implementation of technology in curriculum resources and instructional delivery.
  4. Works with teachers and administrators in facilitating change, improving instruction, developing curriculum and improving student performance, in the classroom, schools, and district-wide.  When appropriate, is involved in the evaluation process for teachers as designated by the primary evaluator.
  5. Develops and provides workshops or classes to enhance the curriculum, instruction or program as related to student learning and achievement.
  6. Develops and implements research to provide information concerning the effectiveness of various instructional programs with the objective of evaluating and improving instructional programs if necessary.
  7. Based upon assessments, makes a recommendation to the Chief Academic Officer regarding the modification of curriculum and the improvement of instructional practices to provide opportunities for improving higher levels of student achievement for all performance categories.
  8. Directs, coordinates and facilitates activities in collaboration with staff to meet district and Board Goals.
  9. Demonstrates professional knowledge of curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment, professional learning in assigned areas.
  10. Manages efficiently and effectively texts and instructional materials, equipment, and supplies as needed to maintain the delivery of curriculum and instruction consistently across classrooms in the district.
  11. Manages assigned budget in a timely and cost efficient manner.
  12. Provides positive communication individually, with groups, and with the media regarding student and staff achievement; parent issues and concerns; and curriculum area or program area information.
  13. Demonstrates an understanding of technology and its uses for learning, teaching and assessment; and for accessing and managing information and data.
  14. Collaborates with department chairs, committee representatives, and school and district administrators
  15. Completes district responsibilities for the purpose of improving student achievement.
  16. Follows the direction of his/her supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualified candidate must have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative endorsement
Solid and diverse administrative experience, preferably both as a school building and central office administrator
Prior successful high school teaching and leadership experience is preferred.

Salary/Benefits

Rate of pay: Starting rate of pay is $137,017-$185,637
