Coordinator of Health Services
Duties
Essential Duties:
- Develops and administers a coordinated school health program district-wide.
- Maintains professional and compliant nursing documentation processes.
- Participates in IDPH and ISBE compliance programs in conjunction with the School Nurse / Health Clerk at assigned schools.
- Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
- Coordinates with external healthcare providers, including referrals, follow-up care, and educational planning regarding students’ health and safety needs and developing plans to meet those needs at school
- Recommends modifications in the school program for students who require accommodations due to health concerns.
- Develops and maintains healthcare plans for students who need nursing interventions during the school day.
- The Health Coordinator participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in supporting the identification, evaluation, and placement of students into special education programs.
- Write, attend, and review 504, Domain, and Evaluation meetings (and other meetings as applicable to the position).
- Coordinate and conduct annual health-related training for designated staff, including first aid, CPR, and AED.
- Maintain accurate records of all staff training and student health data in compliance with state requirements, including but not limited to the accurate, timely upload of all requirement compliance materials for staff and students in relevant databases (e.g. IWAS, etc.).
- Arrange district-wide vision and hearing screenings and complete required state reporting.
- Order and maintain inventory of district health supplies.
- Monitor and communicate policies and procedures related to medication administration.
- Respond promptly to student and staff health emergencies, administer first aid, and document incidents.
- Collaborate with district health clerks regarding health concerns, especially for the special education population.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all legal requirements related to health services.
- Develop and maintain a communicable disease prevention program in collaboration with public health agencies.
- Prepare and distribute notifications to staff and families regarding exposure to contagious diseases.
- Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and administrators about student health concerns.
- Compile and review monthly district-wide student incident reports.
- Provide consultation and guidance to district staff on health-related issues.
Additional Duties:
- Respond to student/staff/parent concerns and work collaboratively to ensure needs are met equitably.
- Promote inclusive and culturally responsive practices throughout the district.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and initiatives as assigned by the supervisor and/or Superintendent.
- Ensure relevant sections of the district website are updated regularly—at minimum before summer, before the start of the school year, and before winter—and notify appropriate staff when updates are needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- One of the following credentials (required):
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in School Nursing or (willingness to obtain licensure), or
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure with relevant experience, or
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related field with demonstrated experience in school or community health coordination.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Knowledge of state and federal health regulations applicable to schools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and manage health services across multiple sites.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred but not required: Bilingual endorsement/approval or fluency in a second language, in addition to English.
Salary/Benefits
- Work Year: 224 work days
- Leave: 12 Sick Days / 2 Personal Days
- FLSA Status: Exempt

- Salary: Commensurate with experience ($72,500 - $90,000)
