Assistant Director of Special Education

Duties

Key Operational & Financial Responsibilities 

  • Fiscal Oversight: With the Executive Director, manage and monitor special education budgets, grant allocations (IDEA Part B), and expenditures. Ensure fiscal responsibility while maximizing resources for student support and classroom technology.
  • Data & Compliance Systems: Oversee the accuracy and integrity of Illinois-specific reporting, including I-STAR, December 1 Child Count, and Child Find.
  • Revenue Optimization: Lead the Medicaid Billing process, ensuring related service providers meet documentation standards to maximize district reimbursement.
  • Programmatic Logistics: Coordinate the operational framework for Extended School Year (ESY), including transportation logistics, staffing matrices, and facility scheduling.
  • Staffing & Personnel: Assist in the strategic recruitment and allocation of licensed staff and paraprofessionals to meet student acuity needs across member districts

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Special Education or Educational Administration (Required).
  • Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative Endorsement and Director of Special Education endorsement.
  • Experience: Proven experience in special education administration. Specific expertise in I-STAR reporting, Illinois Medicaid billing or school finance is a distinct advantage.
  • Skill Set: Advanced proficiency in data management, budget forecasting, and clear professional communication.

Salary/Benefits

Salary & Benefits 

  • Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000 (Commensurate with experience).
