Duties

Job Summary: The special education teacher’s primary goal is to provide instructional services to children with diverse learning needs according to the child’s Individual Education Program (IEP). The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing engaging instruction that is aligned with the curriculum but modified to meet the needs and abilities of each student. The teacher may need to provide instruction within a co-teaching, push-in, resource, and/or self-contained setting. The teacher may collaborate with other classroom teachers and related service providers in the development and implementation of best practices, thus ensuring that the special education student’s needs are met in all school settings. The teacher will also serve as the case manager for students who receive special education services. There are positions available at the primary, intermediate and middle school levels for the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

• Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a special education (LBS I) endorsement.
• Foundational knowledge of Google Classroom applications.
• Individual must be flexible, creative and child centered.
• Ability to assess the learning of students and modify or enhance instruction as needed.
• Ability to analyze various forms of data and use the information to make instructional decisions.
• Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using standards-based varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
• Strong knowledge of the state standards, and instructional best practices in literacy, and mathematics.
• Ability to work with the special education coordinator to facilitate IEP meetings.

Salary/Benefits

• Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
• Qualified candidates may be granted up to twenty years of verified full-time teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule.

Additional Notes

• Kindergarten through Grade 5 Work hours: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
• Middle School Work Hours: 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
• 180 days per year - August through May
