Dual Language Teacher (Grade 2)

Duties

In cooperation with the administration, a certified teacher creates a
flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth;
establishes effective rapport with students; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes
and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation, in accordance with each student’s’
ability; and establishes good relationships with parents/guardians and with other staff
members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (any field of study, per Illinois law)
  • Illinois Professional Educator License with English as a Second Language or
    English as a New Language endorsement

Salary/Benefits

SALARY: BEA Salary Schedule Starting base of $43,976.00 w/o TRS
(CBA Agreement- Article 26)

Additional Notes

Design and implement lesson plans in both languages that align with state standards
and dual language program goals, delivering integrated academic content and
language development instruction appropriate for 2nd grade students; conduct
ongoing assessments of student progress in both languages and academic subjects,
adapting instruction based on data to meet diverse language proficiency levels and
learning styles; establish and maintain a positive, multicultural learning environment
that celebrates diversity, implements effective behavior management strategies, and
promotes intercultural understanding among young learners; build strong partnerships
with families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, facilitating
communication in families; preferred languages and involving parents as partners in
their children's educational journey; identify and address individual student needs
including learning differences and special services, coordinating with support
personnel while promoting social-emotional development in a multicultural setting;
work effectively with dual language program colleagues, grade-level teams, and
specialists to coordinate curriculum, share resources, and ensure program coherence
across all subject areas; provide targeted support for both English language learners
and heritage speakers through scaffolded instruction, ensuring equitable access to
academic content regardless of language background; maintain accurate and
comprehensive records including gradebooks, attendance, assessment data, and
communication logs in compliance with district and state requirements while ensuring
student safety and supervision; effectively integrate educational technology tools and
digital resources to enhance bilingual instruction, staying current with dual language
education best practices and research; participate in ongoing professional
development related to dual language education and serve as an advocate for
bilingual education through school committees, community engagement, and
continuous improvement of instructional practices.
