Duties

2026-2027 School Year:

10-Month position

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools and/or Deputy Superintendent of Schools

The Principal is the chief supervisory and administrative officer of his/her building. In such capacity the Principal shall dedicate a majority of his/her time on matters relating to curriculum and staff development. In harmony with the policies of the Board of Education, laws of the State of Illinois and regulations of the State Board of Education, he/she is responsible for the supervision and direction of the pupils' programs and personnel of his/her school and for the management and operation of the school building, grounds and equipment. All qualifications and duties are considered essential to fulfill the requirements for the position of School Principal. 

The following duties and responsibilities pertain to all individuals holding the position of Principal.

  • Develop the organization and management of the school.
  • Stimulate curriculum and instructional improvement and, in concert with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Assessment, provide continuing supervision of the curriculum and instructional activities of the teaching staff.
  • Ensure the school takes full advantage of programs to improve educational practice which may be initiated locally, as well as the state and/or national level.
  • recommend all teaching and activity assignments.
  • Assist in the screening, interviewing and recommending for the employment of school personnel.
  • Promote in-service training and professional growth of building staff.
  • Provide for the orientation of new staff members, substitutes and student teachers.
  • Supervise and evaluate teachers, administrative assistants, paraprofessionals, custodial and maintenance personnel and others who may permanently or from time to time be assigned to the principal's assigned building.
  • serve(or designate someone to serve) as special education case manager and attend all special education team meetings, multi-disciplinary conferences and Individual Education Plan meetings.
  • Provide District leadership by serving on committees on a volunteer or assigned basis.
  • Plan and lead informative and stimulating faculty meetings.
  • Develop and maintain a building atmosphere supportive of high employee morale.
  • Assume the responsibility of making budget recommendations for the school and assume responsibility for management f the budget as approved by the Board of Education.
  • Supervise the keeping of enrollment, attendance and other records and the preparation of reports.
  • Assume responsibility for the welfare of students by:
    • developing, in concert with District policy, appropriate and effective discipline procedures,
    • maintaining adequate pupil records,
    • establishing, when appropriate, procedures for communicating with and reporting to the parent community on student progress and other welfare interests of students, and
    • working constructively with PTA, PTO, PTSA, Dad's Club, and any other school-related organizations.
  • Assume the responsibility for coordination of the use of school facilities under his/her supervision by school-related and community groups.
  • Be familiar with, familiarize staff with and enforce Board of education approved policies, guidelines, programs and procedures as well as rules and regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education and laws of the State of Illinois.
  • Represent the school instate, local and other organizations associated with the school or school district.
  • Act as liaison between building personnel and professional or lay groups.
  • Be responsible for the development of a building public relations program.
  • Perform such other additional duties as may be assigned to him/her by the Superintendent of Schools which the employee is qualified to perform.

 

Qualifications

   Must hold: As set by State Certification Authorities: Administrative Professional Educator License
   or Supervisory Endorsement

Salary/Benefits

2026-2027 School year:

10-Month Position.

New Hire Salary Placement Range $116,281. to $127,781.

Placement within this salary range will be based upon previous administrative experience.
