School Psychologist for Special Education Cooperative

Duties

 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the screening/referral process and participates in procedures as appropriate
  • Demonstrates knowledge of formal and informal assessment procedures and instruments
  • Selects assessment instruments appropriate but not necessarily limited to referral question(s)
  • Conducts assessments in a manner which insures validity and reliability
  • Interprets assessment information accurately and presents findings/recommendations in a manner that can be understood by parents and staff and which are appropriate to student needs
  • Recommends appropriate special education diagnosis and services based upon knowledge of special education and assessment information
  • Conducts follow-up assessments as needed
  • Coordinates and participates in benchmarking and progress monitoring
  • Participates in the administration of state assessments

 Provision of Direct Services

  • Demonstrates an understanding of individual and group counseling and psychotherapeutic techniques based on sound psychological and personality theories
  • Conducts classroom observations of students to analyze behavior and learning dynamics
  • Conducts short and long term individual and group counseling sessions
  • Employs a variety of individual and./or group counseling techniques to address identified goals as needed
  • Develops short and long term goals for students assigned for counseling
  • On an ongoing basis, evaluates student progress in counseling and updates goals accordingly
  • Provides consultation to teachers and parents on strategies to effect positive changes in the student and his environment
  • Participates in the development and implementation of mental health preventative strategies
  • Analyzes student data to evaluate student progress and to inform instruction
  • Implements strategies to maintain students in the least restrictive environment
  • Demonstrates knowledge of community resources available to parents, students and staff
  • Provides linkage assistance to parents, students interested in accessing community resources

 Communication Skills

  • Communicates in an effective, constructive and positive manner with students and parents
  • Collaborates and interacts positively with all school personnel
  • Communicates in an effective, constructive and positive manner with administrators/supervisors
  • Promotes positive public relations with the school and community

 Management Tasks

  • Manages and coordinates required paperwork
  • Completes, monitors and/or forwards pupil data as required
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates paraprofessionals and interns (when appropriate)

 Professionalism

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the school psychologist’s role with respect to ECHO assignment
  • Adheres to appropriate ethical standards and legal conduct specific to school psychology and education
  • Follows policies and procedures of the cooperative
  • Demonstrates knowledge of special education legislation and acts in accordance with these mandates
  • Demonstrates knowledge in the field of school psychology including current issues and trends
  • Demonstrates professionalism
  • Demonstrates continual assessment of individual program effectiveness and responds professionally to feedback
  • Participates in professional growth activities

 Performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Master’s Degree

Current Illinois Type 73 Certification as a School Psychologist

Salary/Benefits

Per CBA; We accept 10 years of school experience for placement on the salary schedule

Anticipated openings in the Satellite Program, ABLE Program, PACE Program, ECHO School, AFL, and MacArthur Early Childhood for direct hire candidates.
