"Speech Language Pathologist"

Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborate with staff i.e. classroom teachers, special education teacher, related service providers, paraprofessionals regarding student speech and language concerns, evaluations, and treatment
  2. Assist with the development and implementation of IEP interventions for students
  3. Complete speech and language screenings to identify at-risk students
  4. Support students who use alternative and/or augmentative communication systems
  5. Complete comprehensive speech and language evaluations using standard test batteries and supplemental tests as appropriate to assess the student’s functional status to identify and determine needs for speech/language services
  6. Educate parents and staff as specific needs arise
  7. Lead and/or participate in IEP meetings including domains meetings, annual reviews, initial evaluations, and re-evaluations
  8. As Case Manager, coordinate the completion of IEP paperwork
  9. Provide a continuum of therapeutic service delivery models: Consultative, Direct therapy in general/special education classrooms, Direct therapy in therapeutic room, and Group/Individual
  10. Prepare speech and language evaluation reports which adequately synthesizes information and yields meaningful recommendations
  11. Review independent reports and incorporate the relevant information to that which is currently existing
  12. Determine eligibility for speech and language services
  13. Communicate with private service providers regarding mutual students
  14. Manage accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  15. Adheres to legal and ethical standards and guidelines regarding the provision of speech/language services
  16. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school as agreed upon by supervisors
  17. Interact with students in a mutually respectful manner
  18. Instruct students on how to monitor their own speech and provide ways to practice skills
  19. Express verbal enthusiasm for the lesson and student participation
  20. Reinforce students for learning accomplishments, on-task behaviors and appropriate conduct
  21. Give all students opportunities to ask questions, contribute, and otherwise participate in class activities

 

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Maintain punctuality and regular attendance
  2. Maintain appropriate communications with colleagues for planning and teaching
  3. Carry out services as outlined in the student’s IEP
  4. Complete evidence-based continuing education activities to aid in self-improvement
  5. Complete professional evaluation paperwork as indicated by supervisor

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical requirements will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university program
  2. Professional Educators License issued by the State of Illinois
  3. Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation License
  4. American Speech-Language Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence or Clinical Fellowship Candidate
