Special Education Teacher, Grades K-4

Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Responsible for daily instruction to elementary aged students, grades K-4. Lead social emotional and academic interventions in individual and/or small group settings. 
  • Case manager of assigned students at the elementary level, grades K-4.
  • Collaborates with teachers to modify instruction and ensure appropriate accommodations are implemented. 
  • Communicate with teachers, parents, administration, and special education cooperative, KWSED. 
  • Evaluate students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required by students IEP’s. 
  • Maintain lesson plans and identify clear objectives for all lessons, ensuring the needs of all students are met. Maintain and submit reports and records, as required. 
  • Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects are being worked on simultaneously.  
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions. 
  • Evaluates each pupil’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught. 
  • Selects and requests books, instructional aids, resources, etc. and maintains inventory records as required. 
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Identifies pupils’ needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. 
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Supervises pupils in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. 
  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsorships of student activities. 
  • Participates cooperatively with the Principal or his/her designee to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. 

 

Qualifications

Must possess, or be eligible for, an Illinois Professional Educators License with an endorsement in Special Education, LBSI. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find it appropriate and acceptable. 

Salary/Benefits

Commensurate with salary schedule within the Knoxville Education Association (KEA)

2024-2025 $ 40,977 + Steps

2025-2026 $ 42,616 + Steps
