Duties
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide comprehensive speech and language services to students in elementary schools. The SLP works collaboratively with educators, parents, and other professionals to support students in overcoming communication challenges that impact their academic performance and social interactions. The role includes assessment, intervention, consultation, and participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct thorough speech and language evaluations for students referred for concerns related to communication.
- Identify and diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice, and language impairments.
- Administer standardized and informal assessments to determine eligibility for services.
Intervention and Therapy:
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans targeting speech and language goals.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions tailored to students' needs.
- Use evidence-based practices to address articulation, language development, fluency, and social communication.
- Monitor and document student progress and adjust therapy as needed.
IEP Development and Collaboration:
- Participate as an active member of the IEP team, contributing expertise on communication goals and accommodations.
- Write clear, measurable IEP goals and objectives related to speech and language.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support students’ academic and social success.
Consultation and Training:
- Provide consultation to classroom teachers and support staff on strategies for fostering communication in the classroom.
- Offer professional development or resources to staff on topics related to speech and language.
- Support families in understanding their child’s communication challenges and progress.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure all documentation, including evaluations, IEPs, and progress reports, is completed within required timelines.
- Adhere to ethical standards as outlined by ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) and state licensure requirements.
Other Duties:
- Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, and professional development sessions as required.
- Supervise and mentor graduate interns or speech-language pathology assistants (if applicable).
- Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership.
Qualifications
This position requires a Master's Degree and Illinois Professional Educator Licensure with appropriate speech/language approvals/endorsements and IDFPR. Would prefer at least one (1) year of experience but will consider new graduates during their CF year.
