Duties

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows and supports district goals and mission and implements district programs.

  • Assumes responsibility for the administration of the building.

  • Supervises and evaluates all employees assigned to the building.

  • Assigns all staff members and students within the building and determines teaching schedules and student schedules.

  • Works cooperatively with other district administrators and building staff in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Follows district, state, and federal guidelines in providing exceptional children services as eligible, and monitors progress of students.

  • Develops and maintains scaffolds of support for all levels of learners.

  • Develops and maintains a safe, secure environment for students.

  • Manages all monies handled in the school and is responsible for the building budget, including the approval of needed building supplies and materials in compliance with state requirements, policies and regulations of the board.

  • Is highly visible in the school community and establishes and maintains good relationships with parents, civic, professional, and community groups.

  • Disseminates information to the public about building activities.

  • Determines staff needs in the building and plays a key role in filling vacancies within the school.

  • Communicates regularly with staff, parents, administrators, and the Board.

  • Participates in district meetings and committee assignments.

  • Identifies opportunities for professional growth of staff.

  • Works with the district and school leadership teams in accordance with district guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

MINIMUM CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS 

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid teaching certificate.

  • Experience teaching junior high school age children is preferred.

  • Possess a valid administrator’s certificate.

Knowledge:

  • Successful experience in supervisory/leadership positions.

  • Knowledge of adolescent development.

  • Knowledge of education laws.

  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform moderately strenuous tasks.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills

Salary/Benefits

The successful candidate will be offered the following package:

  • Salary commensurate with experience and degrees

  • Initial one year contract followed by two year contracts

  • 12 month contract annually

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

    • 20 vacation days

    • 17 sick days

    • 3 personal days

    • Days off during Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Spring Breaks

    • Days off for Martin Luther King, Jr and President’s Days

    • Days off on inclement weather days

  • June - July

    • 4 day work weeks (Monday-Thursday)

Western Junior High School consists of the following:

  • 1 SEAS (Social-Emotional-Academic Support) Interventionist

  • 2 Paraprofessionals

  • 2 Custodians

DECISION TIMELINE

  • Position will be posted on December 2, 2024.

  • Applications will be accepted until January 24, 2025 at 3 PM.  

  • Screening of applicants will occur the week of January 27, 2025

    • ALL applicants will be notified the week of January 27, 2025 if they have made the initial round of interviews

  • Initial interviews will occur the week of February 3, 2025

  • Final interviews will occur the week of February 10, 2025

The position will be hired at the regular Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
