Position: Special Education Teacher – Learning Behavior Specialist (Co-Taught or Resource Teacher)
Reports To: Principal
Director of Teaching and Learning
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
- Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) endorsement
OBJECTIVES
The teacher is responsible for implementing the individual education programs and evaluating student progress for students in special education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assesses special needs of individual students and collaborates with staff in meeting those needs.
- Maintains appropriate student records.
- Provides instructions to classroom and 1-1 paraprofessionals and engenders a team atmosphere.
- Motivates students through positive feedback based upon their i.e.p.s and school-wide PBIS, if appropriate.
- Participates in district and school committees.
- Maintains a clean, attractive and safe learning environment.
- Maintains positive relationships and works with parents to achieve student objectives.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Performs other duties as required.
