JOB DESCRIPTION: STEM TEACHER
DESCRIPTI0N OF POSITION To plan, organize and implement an appropriate science instructional program in an elementary or middle school learning
environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivers STEM-oriented instruction (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through Project-Based Learning methods.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that encourage students to come to school, facilitates active learning, and creates an exciting learning experience for students.
- Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established school wide procedures.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment as outlined in student Individualized Educational or 504 Plans.
- Establish efficient classroom management procedures.
- Weave goals, competencies and learning targets into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s life.
- Reach school and course-wide performance goals for every student in the classroom.
- Increase educational knowledge and stay up to date on new methods by joining professional organizations, attending continuing education courses and attending regular training sessions for teachers.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and school equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Utilize school district technology and curriculum resources.
- Administers developmental testing programs and/or subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules, procedures, and classroom expectations.
- Grade papers and homework by regularly providing feedback to keep students updated on how they are doing and to head any problems off before they become a habit.
- Monitor the progress of individual students and use data to adjust teaching strategies.
- Offer praise and encouragement to students when they do well and when they are struggling, and teach them that they have the power to do well in school no matter what.
- Identify students' needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve learning challenges.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
- Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs for full cycle-learning.
- Vary teaching methods for whole group, small group, and individual instruction.
- Attend conferences and workshops to further advance professional development.
- Prepare the classroom for learning activities.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
- Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
