Job Summary:
Guiding Light Academy is a private therapeutic day school (for-profit organization) serving 50 surrounding school districts. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Business Manager to join our team. As a Business Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of our business operations. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and project management skills.
This position manages most aspects of the financial business operations of the company. This position provides accounting and financial planning by maintaining financial records, budget and forecasting, assisting the Operations Manager in managing expenditures, payables and receivables. This position conforms to the requirements of ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) financial guidelines. This position is the liaison with the independent auditors. This position supports the Administrative staff, the Operations Manager and the principals of three different school programs within the company. This position reports to the Owners. This position supervises one Financial Assistant.
Responsibilities:
Maintain complete company financial records in the most current version of Quickbooks, including data entry of all related business activity.
Responsible for issuance of payroll on a bi-weekly basis, including preparation of journal entries for input into Quickbooks, including updating employee information as required.
Periodically reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
Responsible for issuance of monthly invoices to School Districts and collection of receivables.
Prepare weekly Payables report and review with Operations Manager to determine payment of same and issuance of EFT’s or checks as required.
Preparation of detailed budgets and forecasts as required.
Work with outside consultant(s) to maintain State reimbursement rate for all school locations and programs.
Track various budget/forecast detail items and compare to actual results on an as needed basis, including recommending ways to improve results.
Responsible for annual audit of records with independent auditors and ensure timely submission of CFR to ISBE.
Responsible for any financial reporting required by Owners and/or Operations Manager.
Provide principals with periodic financial reporting information to assist them in maintaining control over spending and student enrollment requirements of the company.
Work with insurance agent and internal management to determine Group Health plan to be adopted and follow through with notification of entire company staff accordingly upon adoption.
Work with insurance agent annually to complete workers comp audit.
Work with insurance agent regarding workers comp claims on an as needed basis.
Supervises building maintenance requirements.
Address employee inquiries regarding office issues, supplies, PTO and insurance on an as needed basis.
Responsible for inventories of supplies and equipment.
Responsible for management of petty cash.
Maintain policies and procedures manual of the company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field (accounting/finance)
- Proven experience in business management or related role (five to seven years of relevant experience)
- Private industry over public accounting/auditing experience is preferred
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite is required
-Experience with an external payroll service is preferred
-Experience with working with insurance agents is preferred
- Prior staff management experience preferred
- Proficient in strategic planning and project management
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and make informed decisions
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to manage all fiscal functions of the company.
