Duties

Job Summary:

The job of Special Education teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing educational services and supports to students with identified disabilities; ensuring student progress towards identified goals; and adhering to all state and federal legal requirements.

 

Plan and prepare for all assigned students.  

 

Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEP) in accordance with local procedures and state and federal rules and regulations.  

 

Case Manage assigned students by scheduling, monitoring, and conducting Annual Reviews IEP meetings.

 

Measure progress towards IEP goals at regular intervals and maintain accurate and comprehensive records on students.  

 

Utilize District approved progress monitoring tools, software, and methods.  

 

Communicate regularly with parents, related service personnel, general education teachers, and Director of Special Populations regarding student progress.  

 

Plan, develop, and implement lessons in accordance with Individualized Education Plans and consistent with the District's educational philosophy for supporting student needs.  

 

Plan, develop, and implement Behavior Intervention Plans in accordance with Individualized Education Plans and identified student needs consistent with the District's philosophy for support student needs.

 

Utilize scientifically, research-based district designated curricula and strategies to increase student outcomes academically, behaviorally, and socially emotionally.  

 

Employ effective strategies for eliciting desired behaviors from students at the individual, group, classroom, and building levels.

 

Facilitate the provision of designated modifications, accommodations, and supplementary aides for students in all settings.  

 

Serve as a dynamic, collaborative team member.

 

Monitor and oversee services provided by paraprofessional and/or other support personnel assigned to the classroom and/or students you serve in the general education classroom.  

 

Complete all assigned tasks, reports, and documents assigned.

 

Strive at all times to increase professional knowledge, develop expertise, and employ best and innovative practices in the field.  

 

Attends  meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.

 

Exhibits professionalism and commitment through punctuality, attendance, completion of job responsibilities, demonstration of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and the community.

 

Observes and follows all Morris Elementary School District 54 policies and procedures.

 

Performance of all other duties as assigned by the Director, Principal(s), or his/her designee.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

LBSI Illinois Professional Educator License; excellent communication skills; ability to work in a dynamic school environment; previous experience teaching Special Education students preferred; and previous experience with research-based curricula and intervention preferred
