TITLE: Division Leader for Student Support Services

REPORTS TO: Associate Principal of Educational Services and Director of Student Support Services

FLSA STATUS: Administrative

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As outlined in contract for services.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must possess or be eligible to meet and maintain proper licensure as established by state law and the Illinois Stte Board of Education

2. Qualified Teacher Evaluator preferred but must be obtained for the position. 

3. Administrative experience preferred.

4. Has demonstrated the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, and parents.

5. Must be able to interpret policy, procedures and data. 

6. Must possess strong organizational, communication (written and oral), public relations and interpersonal skills.

7. Must meet any additional qualifications set by the district. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. *Other duties may be assigned.

The division leader provides instructional leadership and enhances articulation regarding curriculum alignment with standards, the development and implementation of common assessments, and the use of effective instructional strategies that will most appropriately meet the needs of students.  The duties of the division leader are critical to the overall educational program of the school and require effective and ongoing communication and collaboration with staff and administration. The Division Leader may be asked to teach one class.  This position is responsible for the following departments: Special Education, School Nurse, Guidance, Social Work, School Psychologist, English Learners, 504s, MTSS.

 

  1. Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the approved curriculum.
  2. Manage the department in a manner that promotes positive and productive relationships between colleagues, students, parents and community.
  3. Facilitate all IEP Meetings (in and out of district meetings)
  4. Ensure adequate accommodations for special education students.
  5. Ensure staffing occur and address the academic and social needs of the students.
  6. Meets regularly with the Director of Student Support Services effectively communicating the implementation of practices as guided by local, state, and federal guidelines.
  7. Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change necessary to produce efficient and effective systems and increase student achievement.
  8. Department responsibility for AP and Pre-AP implementation and monitoring.
  9. Department responsibility for building initiatives. (e.g. AVID, Pre-AP, Incubator Edu)
  10. Follow board polices and administrative rules and regulations.
  11. Select, use, and interpret evaluation data.
  12. Be available to parents, students, administration, and colleagues outside the school day when needed.
  13. Develop and use community and professional resources.
  14. Chair department meetings.
  15. Serve as a consultant to teachers within his/her department and principals district wide.
  16. Provide leadership to department committees for new textbook adoptions and recommend supplementary materials for his/her department. Inventory textbooks and equipment as needed by the administration.
  17. Be knowledgeable in new trends and developments within his/her departmental content area and recommend pilot or experimental programs for consideration.
  18. Recommend and/or provide in-service training programs for his/her department when needed. Attend or facilitate those programs as the leader of the department.
  19. Assist new teachers in methodology, technique, materials, or any other function needed to enhance the new teacher’s ability to be successful.
  20. Provide the leadership for developing curriculum for his/her department.
  21. The division leader will lead the effort in working with foundation schools to coordinate the curriculum throughout the district.
  22. Complete or assist with all surveys, forms, and state reports that are required of his/her department.
  23. As requested by the building principal, observe the teaching of members of the department that might need assistance in classroom management, development of lessons, or any other area related to classroom teaching. Conference with the teacher and make constructive recommendations.
  24. Administer the budget and resources if allocated to the department.
  25. Review requests for new equipment, instructional materials, and supplies for the department. When requests are appropriate, submit request following district procedures and place the order following purchasing protocol.
  26. Make recommendations for high school master schedule.
  27. Attend, or select another department member to attend, conferences that the high school principal or central office administration believes would be beneficial for a department member to attend.
  28. Attend educational services meetings called by the high school administration or District Office administration.
  29. Recommend any changes in the registration handbook to the Associate Principal.
  30. Monitor the curriculum that is being taught in the classroom by the department members.
  31. Work with building administration and counselors to ensure the department runs smoothly.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hand and fingers to operate a computer.  Frequent walking and occasional sitting are also required.  Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
