Duties
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The structured learning teacher provides educational and related services to students identified with
autism spectrum disorders who need social, communication, and behavioral skill development.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Develop and implement a student’s Individualized Education Plan
3. Monitor IEP goal progress and performance to ensure the child’s needs are met appropriately
4. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative
procedures
5. Deliver accommodations, modifications and services according to each student’s IEP
6. Proactively communicate and engage with parents, administrators, and educational team
members to develop individual education plans designed to promote students’ educational,
physical and social/emotional development
7. Understand and follow legal requirements, timelines, and records for special education
8. Attend meetings as required under current contract
9. Maintain high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
10. Support the district’s philosophy of education
11. Foster a classroom environment that is conducive to the learning and needs of all students
12. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs, capabilities,
and interests of the students involved
13. Support the administration and staff in implementing current district practices and programs
14. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and
facilities
15. Direct and support paraprofessionals for the purpose of providing an effective classroom
environment and addressing the needs of individual students
16. Become certified in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within the first year of employment
17. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to
learn, improve, and maintain instructional best practices as a special education teacher
18. Perform duties to support student toileting
19. Perform other related duties as assigned by an administrator for the purpose of insuring the
efficient and effective functioning of the school and district
Qualifications
? Received a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
? Valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL)
? Valid Learning Behavior Specialist 1 Certification (LBS1)
