The Vermilion Association for Special Education is seeking a full or part-time Teacher for the Visually Impaired. The teacher will be working with students in Vermilion County. Travel is required and all mileage is reimbursed by the cooperative. Job Description:
1. Assess functional vision through testing, observation, consultation, and reading of ophthalmologist or optometrist’s reports
2. Participate in educational staffings concerning individual students
3. Develop and implement IEP goals/objectives in conjunction with the IEP team
4. Provide instruction to visually impaired students as stated on IEP
5. Identify the needs of students with visual impairments and monitor/consult/provide direct instruction to the students in the least restrictive environment
6. Order, adapt, create and utilize all instructional curricular materials necessary and procure and correctly utilize adaptive equipment for meeting the full academic potential of those children with visual impairments in the regular classroom
7. Provide consultation to school personnel concerning the student’s functional vision
8. Train teachers on needed classroom modifications, and how to utilize adapted materials and equipment.
9. Provide support and assistance with parent education and understanding of student’s visual problems
10. Maintain appropriate records and service log
11. Attend staff meetings and professional meetings
12. Other pertinent duties as assigned by Director or designated administrator |
