Duties
Sangamon Valley CUSD #9 is looking for an organizational leader with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and the community at large. The primary responsibility of the paraprofessional is to assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members to provide educational benefits for students.
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
- Assists certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by certified staff.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any guest teacher assigned in the absence of the regular certified staff.
- Works as a member of the team with the teacher.
- Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips.
- Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines.
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
- Participates in in-service training programs as approved or required.
- Maintains a safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school related duties.
- Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the IEP.
- Utilizes appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline.
- Models professional, courteous behavior, attitude, and appearance in all interactions with students, parents, school officials, co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
(1) A valid Illinois paraprofessional license; (2) such alternatives to these qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary/Benefits
The paraprofessional position will primarily work with grades 3-5 and benefits will be discussed in detail with the final candidate(s) but will include Board-paid Individual Health Insurance, IMRF, you can view the noncertified contract and benefits using this link: SV CUSD #9 Non-cert Handbook. The final compensation package will be based on the candidate's experience, professional preparation, and other qualifications. $15-$20/hour.
