JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist
LOCATION: Steger Primary Center, Steger Intermediate Center,
Columbia Central School
SUPERVISOR: Principal and Director of Student Services
FLSA Status: Exempt
Union/Non-Union: Union
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for evaluating students’ speech and language skills; providing therapeutic intervention to identified students; consulting with staff and/or parents regarding speech and language functioning in the educational setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Identifies and evaluates students with speech and language impairments.
- Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and language impaired children.
- Participates in the determination of eligibility for special education and related services in the area of speech and language impairment.
- Participates in the teacher and parent conferences including multidisciplinary conferences, IEP meetings and Annual Reviews.
- Develops and implements IEPs for all students eligible for special education and related services in the area of speech and language impairment.
- Provides intervention support for students in the speech RtI process.
- Team teaches with classroom teachers when appropriate.
- Completes required documentation and reports, including Medicaid billing, case notes, and related service logs.
- Participates on case study and collaboration teams as needed.
- Facilitates curriculum and instructional modifications.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
- The role requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Occasional travel to various school locations required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in an environment where unusual temperature and noise are relatively nonexistent
- Work is performed in an environment where health hazards may occur
- Occasional need for work outside the normal hours/days
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
- Speech Language Pathologist (teaching or non-teaching) endorsement
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- All terms of employment are outlined by the collective bargaining agreement with the Steger Education Association.
EVALUATION: The performance of this role is evaluated according to the Board's policy on evaluating professional personnel by the Director of Student Services
