JOB GOAL
To regularly and directly assist the Executive Director with the initiation, development, implementation, and assessment of instructional programs and related services for students with special needs in special education programs.
MAJOR DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. This is a 12-month, 24-hour residential program for children who are deaf-blind ages 3-21.
Essential
The Special Education Principal must be able to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and abilities.
- Have technology skills, including remote meeting platforms and social media.
- Be able to understand and adhere to School policies and procedures.
- Be able to maintain the confidentiality of staff and student information.
- Be able to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues.
- Be of good moral character and possess temperate, ethical and industrious habits.
- Analyze urgent situations accurately and exercise judgment in taking effective action when dealing with parents, students, and staff.
- Valid Driver’s license and bus permit (or willing to get).

Program Development and Implementation
- Coordinate and lead Student Services team meetings
- Assist in development of School Calendar.
- Maintain a working knowledge and awareness of special education laws and specific regulations related to documentation and reporting of those laws.
- Regularly and directly assist Executive Director with the development and implementation of special education programs, ESY Program, and ensure programs are in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Leads a process that ensures that families are respected and valued partners in planning and implementation of special education
- Develop and enhance exiting curriculum
Instructional Leadership
- Coordinate and lead regular team meetings with specific student services staff members (related service providers).
- Utilize school’s behavior management and intervention strategies including but not limited to de-escalation techniques, crisis management and Ukeru strategies.
- Advise teachers with academic curriculum, instruction, assessment, and implementation of special education services.
- Supervise professional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of the school’s mission.
Supervision and Evaluation
- Evaluate certified staff through formal and informal observations and Danielson Framework implementation.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and training teaching staff.
- Review IEPs for accuracy and compliance
- Assist with notifying case managers to ensure that deadlines related to IDEA documentation, data reports, or required special education reports are met in a timely fashion.
Case Coordination
- Facilitate evaluation IEP/Annual Review/IEP update meetings with all stakeholders
- Coordinate case management of students including instructional planning, selection of intervention materials and transition planning.
- Ensure all students are educated in accordance with their Individual Education Plans (IEP)
- Drive, record and track student growth and progress towards academic, social and emotional goals
Consultation/Collaboration
- Effectively utilize conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills to address student, family, and staff.
- Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in parent meetings, family nights and parent conferences.
- Believes that families are respected and valued partners in planning and implementation of special education programming.
