Job Description and Responsibilities
- Teach and design courses in the subject area utilizing the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale, curricula and materials provided by the Preschool For All Grant.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning with an emphasis given to language and literacy development, acceptable student behavior, attitudes and social skills.
- Design units of study with goals and objectives suitable for verbal or visual instruction of children with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturity in compliance with the ECBG grant guidelines.
- Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences appropriate to their skill levels and developmental needs and adapt curriculum as needed based on the identified needs of the students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners in individual or small group instruction.
- Monitor and oversee services provided by teacher assistants assigned to the classroom.
- Develop and submit data-driven lesson plans, as required.
- Collaborate with special education instructors and/or related services, as applicable, to maintain accurate, complete and correct general education and special education records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Administer and/or monitor state, district and local assessments, as required. Provide ongoing observation and authentic assessment of children and maintain documentation of each child’s progress and growth.
- Submit reports to the appropriate person(s), as required.
- Complete and submit paperwork and reports in a timely fashion to ensure compliance to all district, local, state and federal guidelines.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.
- Communicate with parents, administrators and all other applicable school personnel the student’s academic, social/emotional progress and accommodations.
- Develop activities for parents that promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their children.
- Participate in program development, and in the selection of materials and equipment to support and supplement instruction.
- Direct and supervise students, implement PBIS and maintain and document discipline both in and out of the classroom during the assigned workday.
- Use subject matter knowledge, teaching and learning, best practices and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
- Exhibit legal and ethical behavior in professional practice; follow and implement all district rules, regulations, practices and policies.
- Continuously improve professional practices, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in the school and professional community.
- Work cooperatively with all staff to deliver educational services relating to the instruction of children.
- Encourage students to think independently and express original and creative ideas.
- Participate in / attend building and district meetings, as required.
- Participates in school based problem solving team, in school staffing team, and in the screening processes of early childhood students.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Provides appropriate safety instruction.
- Carry out routine duties such as toileting, hand-washing, and cleanup in cooperation with other staff.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities related to the department as may be requested by the Principal or designee.
