Duties

Reporting to the Director, provides leadership and consultative services to school counselors. Promotes school reform, innovation in college and career readiness and Career and Technical Education. Works across departments to coordinate school counseling needs. Supports CTE system regions and the arts and communication CTE focus area.

  • Provides leadership in career development and school counseling for k-12 and coordinates with statewide career information systems. 
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of statewide, regional, and local in-service training activities for professional school counselors and other educators serving schools, districts and area career centers on career programming and comprehensive Postsecondary and Career Expectation (PACE) framework for developing, implementing and evaluating career education and counseling for students. 
  • Provides professional development to school counselors.
  • Works collaboratively with Illinois Community College Board and Illinois School Counselor's Association.  
  • Shares best practices to the field. 
  • Manages the School Counselor Website and Listserv, and facilitates a School Counselor Advisory Council. 
  • Provides support for the field on FAFSA.
  • Provides technical assistance for the College and Career Pathway Endorsement to the districts, manages and approved the endorsements submitted.
  • Provides support for the arts and communication CTE areas such as audio visual and performing arts. 
  • Provides support for the field and department staff regarding graduation requirements and other guidance questions in core subject areas. 
  • Assists in conducting research and prepares reports. 
  • Provides technical assistance and other support services to regional systems, administrative and instructional personnel in an assigned region of the state. 
  • Monitors and evaluates CTE programs and grants through on-site visits and regular communication with grantees and stakeholders. 
  • Assists with the development of grant applications and ensures compliance with state and federal rules and regulations and fiscal and programmatic practices.
  • Provides leadership and consultative services to local and regional personnel for the development and implementation of effective innovative practices leading to school reform and improved student performance. 
  • Facilitates data collection to support the schools and districts on interpreting the data to support the students to be college and career ready.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with internal and external resources and other professional organizations in order to sustain and coordinate improved teaching and learning. 
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of in-service training sessions for regional systems, school and agency school counselors, and other audiences as necessary. 
  • Collaborates in the delivery of professional development associated with improvement initiatives for curriculum and instruction for college and career readiness.
  • Works with state and federal legislation, rules and regulations and the State Plan for CTE, and assists in the state and federal performance reports for CTE.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, or, a Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Education or Education field plus two years of professional experience in school counseling, career and technical education, education, psychology or sociology. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • School counselor license. (COPY OF LIENSE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • Two years of experience (in addition to the education requirements) in school counseling, education and/or CTE at the k-12 level. 
  • Experience with professional development. 
  • Knowledge of Carl D Perkins Legislation. 
  • Evidence of the ability to work effectively in teams. 
  • Understanding of integrating academics and technical skill standards. 
  • Knowledge of current career development approach and techniques. 
  • Knowledge of social emotional learning standards. 

  • Experience in career and technical education in addition to school counseling. 
  • Experience in working with grants and contracts.
