Special Education Teacher
Duties
- Works collaboratively with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and parents
- Create schedules for daily student instruction and provide testing accommodations
- Develops and implements IEPs/BIPs in compliance with the IDEA and IL regulations
- Provides behavior interventions
- Provides academic interventions
- Participates in functional behavioral analysis and behavior intervention planning
- Possesses strong curricular knowledge related to programming for behavior and academic needs
- Directs instructional aides in implementation of accommodations and/or modifications
- Participates in the problem solving team process
- Provides progress monitoring and data collection to drive instructional decisions
- Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving skills and flexibility
- Maintains CPI certification
- Communicates regularly, appropriately, and successfully to engage families in the educational program
- Takes initiative to attend and actively participate in the school/district’s activities, committees, and events.
Qualifications
- Illinois Professional Educator License with Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Ability to perform as part of a student services team
- Flexible, independent self-starter
- Strong technology skills
- Expertise with behavioral and academic interventions
- Ability to analyze student academic and behavior data for instructional purposes
