Berwyn North School District 98 is located in Berwyn, Illinois. The district has three elementary schools and one middle school and serves more than 2,500 students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Job Title: Paraeducator
Classification: Classified
Accountability: Reports to building level administrators
Job Profile: We are seeking compassionate, dedicated paraeducators to assist elementary and middle school teachers with classroom lessons, activities, organization and management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in all aspects of instruction and classroom management
- Lead individual or small group discussions to reinforce learning
- Translate information from teacher to students for greater student comprehension
- Organize classroom materials
- Monitor students during lessons
- Assist with minimizing distractions and disruptions
- Attend to students’ physical, personal, academic and emotional needs
- Provide clerical support as needed including tracking student attendance, grading tests and homework
- Ensure students receive positive, nurturing guidance and support
- Assist students on/off the bus
- Assist students with coats, jackets, hats, boots, shoes, etc.
- Supervise recess and washroom breaks; assist with diapering/toileting as needed
- Assist with lunch supervision
Continuous Improvement:
- Remain abreast of current trends in education by attending conferences and workshops based on school/district priorities
- Conduct and/or participate in workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote the intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students
- Monitor student improvement
- Communicate clearly orally and in writing
- Communicate in ways that exhibit a growth mindset
- Maintain a close working relationship with classroom teachers and other staff to ensure information exchange and coordination of efforts

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Associates Degree, 60 semester hours of coursework, or high school diploma/GED and qualifying test scores
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four year accredited college/university (preferred)
- A valid Illinois ELS-PARA (Paraprofessional Licence) PEL, Substitute License or ELS License (Educator License w/Stipulations) is required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- Proficient use of technology (computer, IPads, copy machine, etc)
- Prior experience working with children/adolescents
- Passion for working with children/adolescents
- Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in English
- Basic knowledge of reading and/or math content
- Ability to manage student misbehavior
- Willingness/Ability to toilet children as needed
- Willingness/Ability to change diapers of students as needed
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, and speak proficiently in Spanish
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with students with learning disabilities
