Duties

  • Help teacher prepare and adapt instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
  • Help with inventory and care of all equipment including technology, books, supplies, and classroom materials
  • Assist assigned student with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
  • Assist student with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Participate in staff development, training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Help manage behavior of student. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting student’s special educational, medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Work with individual student or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
  • Help supervise assigned student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of the student
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain reliable and regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or other school personnel supervisor.

Qualifications

Applicants MUST meet the requirements for a paraprofessional approval issued by the Illinois State Board of Education to obtain a Paraprofessional Certification.

SALARY RANGE
Beginning salary at $18.29

Additional Notes

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The work year for this position is 180 days.
  • Salary is in accordance with the SPA contract.    
  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to restrain a student based on the CPI model
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
