Duties

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Bilingual Paraprofessional to join our educational team. The successful candidate will assist teachers in the delivery of educational services to students, providing support in both English and Spanish. This role is crucial in helping students overcome language barriers and succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers with classroom management and delivery of instruction in both English and Spanish.
  • Student Assistance: Work individually or in small groups with students to reinforce learning concepts, monitor progress, and provide additional academic support.
  • Communication Facilitation: Act as a liaison between non-English speaking students and staff, helping to ensure clear and effective communication.
  • Translation and Interpretation: Translate educational materials and communications between teachers, students, and parents as needed.
  • Behavioral Support: Assist in managing student behavior and implementing individualized behavior plans.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Promote an inclusive classroom environment that respects and celebrates cultural diversity.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student progress and activities.
  • Parent Engagement: Assist in communicating with parents or guardians, providing updates on student progress and school events in their preferred language.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in bilingual education.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher in Education or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational setting preferred. Experience in bilingual education or translation services is highly desirable.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
    • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in student success.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
    • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with educational software and tools.
  • Certifications: Paraprofessional certification may be required depending on state or local regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, and move around the classroom for extended periods. Occasional lifting of materials and supplies up to 20 pounds.
  • Work Environment: School setting, which may include classrooms, playgrounds, and other educational spaces. May require occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings or events.
