Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the district’s network by monitoring and evaluating network performance for utilization, network traffic, latency and throughput for LAN, WAN and internet connections.
- Assist with the planning and selection of hardware components, installation and configuration of infrastructure devices, and implementation of policies and procedures for network access.
- In conjunction with the Director of Technology, control the security aspects of all technology systems by implementing and managing the necessary firewalls, filters, and other appropriate components.
- Oversee the maintenance and improvement process cycles – research, plan, install, configure, test, modify, monitor, evaluate – for operating server and network software.
- Determine the type and frequencies of backups for systems and database files.
- Design, implement, and administer access security and permissions for district users.
- Participate in troubleshooting to resolve complex network problems, including email, application servers, firewalls, network switching, wireless controllers and authentication protocols, security and communication platforms.
- Schedule and communicate system downtime with end users and technical staff members to facilitate hardware/software upgrades, changeovers, and backups.
- Configure, implement, and maintain physical, virtual and cloud server environments:
- Network Service Servers (DHCP, DNS, Directory Services),
- Windows Servers/Hyper-V
- Exchange
- Active Directory/Hybrid Azure AD
- Microsoft Office 365
- Radius Authentication
- Unified Communications
- Archiving solutions
- Software deployment, device and patch management platforms
- Physical Security Systems including security cameras and access control systems.
- Low-Voltage Network Cabling
- Printing infrastructure Services Support
- Adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied packaged programs for use with existing information systems.
- Manage data integration and automation between various internal and external systems and databases to support curriculum initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to building-level techs regarding various aspects of the district’s technology infrastructure.
- Assist in maintaining district technology hardware equipment, including, desktops, laptops, phones, printer/copiers, projectors, etc.
- Maintain the district inventory of network equipment, devices, hardware support contracts, and software licensing renewals and make recommendations to the Director of Technology for service or replacement of specific hardware and network components.
- Monitor the District’s Help Desk Ticket system.
- Assist District administrative staff and other personnel in preparing, running and printing reports, data and required analyses using various software applications.
- Provide timely responses to questions asked.
- Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive personnel and student data.
- Follow all District policies and all administrative rules and regulations.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and professional habits.
- Contribute to and align efforts with the District’s mission.
- Perform other tasks and/or duties that may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the Director of Technology, the Assistant Superintendent, or the Superintendent.
Additional Notes
The Systems & Network Administrator (SNA) ensures continuous and efficient operation of the district’s servers, network infrastructure, and cloud-based applications. This position coordinates and performs ongoing administration of integrated operating systems and applications, and evaluates system requirements, processes, and working parameters for hardware/software capability.
