Duties

Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for an Assistant Director of Special Education. The Assistant Director of Special Education will work collaboratively with the Director of Special Education to provide support to all stakeholders with regards to special education procedures, laws and best practice in order to facilitate compliance with local policy, state and federal regulations related to special education and section 504.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and direct the identification, placement, IEP development, and procedural safeguards of all students with disabilities who are eligible to receive special education assistance
  • Collaborate with the Director of Special Education to develop and implement curriculum for students with special needs that is aligned with District goals and state standards
  • Work with special education staff and building administrators to provide special education guidance and assistance, including IEP compliance
  • Assist in the oversight and/or support special education programs, speech and language, psychological, social work services, occupational and physical therapy, vision and deaf or hearing related services
  • Collaborate with staff in the Technology Services Department to oversee the planning and implementation of the augmentative communication services
  • Collaborate with the District’s outplacement coordinator when considering placement options for students that are outside of District 47 
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary conferences, IEP meetings and annual reviews
  • Promote collaboration between regular and student services staff
  • Provide consultation to staff on the district and individual building levels pertaining to procedures, services, and programming
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of due process and mediation related issues in collaboration with the Director of Special Education
  • Serve as a liaison to the families and the community resources, as appropriate
  • Coordinate and provide consultation on staff evaluations to the building administrators
  • Perform other tasks or services consistent with the job goal of this position that a supervisor may assign

Qualifications

 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License 
    • General Administrative
    • Special Education and/or School Service Personnel endorsements
    • Director of Special Education endorsement (or ability to obtain within 1st yr) 
    • Teacher Evaluator designation
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a learning behavior specialist teacher and/or related service professional in the public school setting
  • Administrative experience in the public education setting, preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications/programs
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, articulation, concentration, confidentiality, organization and maintain a positive attitude
  • Excellent consultation and collaboration skills
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Possess high levels of organization, flexibility, creativity and cooperativeness

 
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, interpersonal skills, articulation, and organization
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and travel between buildings
