Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct planning, implementation and evaluation of professional development of certified and support staff of the department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of best practices in instruction and classroom management.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines regarding special education programs and services.
  • Uses data informed decision making systems to facilitate, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate district and special education programs and to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in the recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation process for special education staff.
  • Establish annual goals that align with district goals and mission statement.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of curricula and assessment materials used by 6th through 12th grade + students served by the department.
  • Collaborates and communicates with the Board, district administrators, special education teachers, general education teachers, support staff, parents, students and, if necessary, outside agencies for the purpose of implementing and maintaining special education services and programs with fiscal efficiency.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility, prepares/manages budgets, manages/monitors grants, directs spending, and monitors maintenance of effort for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing required services.
  • Identify and recommend facility needs for students served by the department.
  • Communicates and supports a philosophy of least restrictive environment for students with special needs, both with district special education programming and out of district placements. 
  • Coordinates, facilitates and attends intake meetings, child review conferences, initial IEP conferences, annual review IEP conferences, change of placement IEPs, 504 meetings and other meetings as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
  • Monitor and manage special education interventions.
  • Monitor and provide professional development to staff in providing appropriate transition services for all secondary students with IEPS. 
  • Monitor the training and use of CPI for all staff as well as ongoing data management aligned for ISBE rules and regulations.
  • Reviews and analyzes relevant state and district data for the purpose of increasing student achievement and program improvements.
  • Demonstrates effective utilization of technology for program improvement including but not limited to knowledge of Google, Excel and Embrace IEP.
  • Prepares reports and other information as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in all aspects of the supervisor’s role within the district and community.
  • Actively attends and/or is engaged in community activities including professional and community organizations, student extra curricular activities and monthly Board meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.                

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a M.S. in School Administration with a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with Administrative or Superintendent Endorsement and endorsement in at least one area of Special Education.
  • Prior experience as an administrator and completion of teacher evaluation modules, preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

 

Salary/Benefits

$78,000 - $86,000 Depending on education and experience
