Duties
JOB FUNCTION: Immediate openings available. Evaluates and improves each child's academic and behavioral functioning, establishes and carries out the IEP by implementing daily programming. POSITION PROFILE: A special education teacher provides academic instruction to students on a daily basis. They play a critical role in carrying out the IEP requirements for each student in their daily programming, and are the main change agent for student's academic and behavioral growth. They serve as role models for students. Special Education teachers at the Academy for Autism will be assisted in the classroom by two Teaching Assistants.
Qualifications
Minimum BA/BS in education with LSB1/11 certification or approval by the Illinois State Board Education. Ability to relate effectively to children and their parents; sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in students, staff, and families served; effective written and oral communications, ability to work independently and within a team; ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic and confidential manner.

About AFA: The Academy for Autism serves students K-22 with an educational or medical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The educational experience for students at The Academy for Autism includes evidence-based curriculum based on principles of applied behavior analysis, including functional behavior assessments and discrete trial training. Students benefit from low student-to-staff ratio (2:1) including speech and occupational therapy; and case coordination.; AFA provides extensive staff training in teaching children with autism. The Academy for Autism currently serves about 25 students.
