Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists with the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program
- Assists with coordinating and promoting professional growth plans and opportunities for faculty and staff
- Assists with coordinating new teacher orientation and ongoing staff development program
- Provides leadership and oversight for the instructional, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs
- Responsible for assisting with horizontal and vertical articulation and curricular alignment
- Establishes direction and leadership for school improvement planning efforts prioritizing assigned school improvement work
- Assists with establishing, monitoring, and evaluating school improvement goals as documented in the School Improvement Plan
- Assists in identifying and analyzing loss exposures as well as developing and implementing procedures to manage and monitor loss exposures
- Uses data to make decisions about curriculum, assessment, instruction and all school improvement efforts
- Establishes a culture of mutual respect and excellence through dialogue and relationships with students, staff, parents and community members
- Assists with developing, monitoring, and evaluating programs to enhance a positive school culture and climate
- Responsible for supervision assignments and assists with scheduling
- Oversees state and local assessment programs
- Assists with coordinating recruitment, selection, employment and retention of staff
- Assist with supervising day to day building operations and maintenance
- Implements Board of Education and district office policies and procedures
- Assists with developing and maintaining student handbook and building procedures
- Responsible for student management and discipline
- Supervises the inventory and organization of instructional materials and supplies
- Oversees certain vendor, publishers, and service contracts
- Coordinates building level crisis plan
- Supervises school activities and events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with general administrative endorsements, as well as any other requirements set by law. The primary responsibility of an Assistant Principal is the improvement of instruction. Each Assistant Principal shall perform all duties as described in State law as well as such other duties as specified in his or her employment agreement or as the Superintendent may assign, that are consistent with the Assistant Principal’s education and training. Must exhibit the characteristics of a highly motivated instructional leader with extensive knowledge of curriculum, assessment, student support and behavior management, best teaching practice and sound management and interpersonal skills.

Additional Notes
Evaluation will be according to the Peru Elementary School District 124 Assistant Principal Evaluation Plan, in accordance with PERA and the Illinois School Code
