Duties
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide focused interventions to small groups of and/or individual students in accordance with our district and school MTSS plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for literacy and math services in individual, and/or small group settings, including push-in and pull-out services.
2. Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of the District’s literacy and math content standards.
3. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
4. Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities to support content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
5. Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
6. Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
7. Communicate student progress to parents and teachers on a continuous basis.
8. Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate school/district personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions.
9. Strives to maintain and improve professional learning through professional development activities.
10. Leads MTSS discussions and decisions.
11. Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve literacy and math.
12. Participates in staff development focused on delivery of literacy and math core, intervention, and assessment.
Qualifications
1. Valid and current elementary or primary-level Illinois teacher license
2. Reading Specialist certification (preferred)
3. Mathematics and ESL endorsements (preferred)
4. Masters in Literacy or Mathematics Education (preferred) or related field or National Board Certification
5. Evidence of at least three (3) years of exemplary classroom teaching experience (preferred)
6. Excellent communication skills
7. A proven track record in the use of a rich array of instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
8. Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position.
9. Proven ability to apply literacy and mathematical content knowledge, formative assessment, and technology integration at a high level.
10. Deep understanding of student learning styles, brain-based learning, and differentiated instruction; relative to both content and language.
11. Desire to continue learning “what works” in literacy and mathematics instruction, as well as MTSS.
