Duties
Mahomet-Seymour CUSD #3 is looking for a Teacher for Students with Visual Impairments. This teacher will provide direct or consultative services specific to students with vision loss and conduct ongoing observations of the student that will assist them in ensuring their goals and accommodations continue to be appropriate.
Qualifications
Applicants must be a licensed special education teacher who has received certification and specialized training in meeting the educational needs of students who are blind or have visual impairments. Applicants should have experience conducting Functional Vision Assessments in order to determine how much usable vision a student has to perform visual tasks. A knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum and how to utilize the different areas of instruction is also preferred.
Applicants should be able to:
- Identify ways to enhance student learning by adapting activities and materials to the student's abilities.
- Collaborate with other teachers and therapists to create a classroom environment that encourages independence and academic success.
- Read and interpret medical reports in order to determine the implications those results will have for the educational environment.
- Identify instructional methods and materials for meeting goals and objectives and also recommend appropriate educational delivery options, including class placement, physical education, special equipment needs, adaptations in testing procedures, and time frames for implementation.
- Keep an open line of communication with parents/caregivers and other classroom teachers in order to develop a better understanding of the student.
Salary/Benefits
Per contract. Signing bonus of $5,000 (with 3-year commitment).
