Duties

 The Head Football Coach is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the Fightin’ Irish Football Program. The Head Football Coach is required to be familiar with and abide by the IHSA and Bishop McNamara rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. The Head Football Coach will report directly to the Athletic Director of Bishop McNamara. 

Head Football Coach Primary Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Works with administration to coordinate the development and promotion of the Fightin’ Irish Football Program. Assists the Director of Athletics in scheduling of games. 
  • Works with administration in the development and implementation of instructional goals and objectives to endure the overall educational development of all student-athletes in the football program. 
  • Recruits student-athletes from within our school system and encourage new student athletes to participate in the football program. 
  • Manages, supervises, and runs athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth and athletic skills of all team members. 
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of all team members. 
  • Prepares all team members for each opponent each week, using a variety of coaching techniques. 
  • Establishes a criteria for performance and evaluates students’ athletic abilities from the beginning to the end of each season. 
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organized practice plans for each day for all levels. 
  • Oversees and supervises all football staff to ensure they are working together toward the common goals of the Fightin’ Irish Football Program. 
  • Ensures all football staff comply and following all IHSA and Bishop McNamara rules, regulations, and guidelines. 
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities. 
  • Works with our Athletic Trainer with student rehabilitation from injuries. 
  • Applies and enforces student discipline during athletic contests and practices. 
  • Monitors and enforces student eligibility. 
  • Holds preseason parent meetings and post season banquet. 
  • Participates in special events such as senior night, homecoming events and pep assemblies. 
  • Assists student athletes on NCAA regulations and the recruiting process. 
  • Maintains and secures all football equipment and uniforms. Oversees the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment. 
  • Promotes and encourages teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship in all phases of athletic participation. Represents the Fightin’ Irish Football Program in a professional manner both on and off the field. 
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. 
  • Assists in finding drivers for transportation to away scheduled contests. 
  • Assists in field maintenance and working with coaches to prepare the field for gameday. This includes striping the field and clean-up of the sideline after home contests. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, directed and/or needed by the Athletic Department. 

Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications: 

  • At least 3 years of experience coaching football (head coaching experience preferred) 
  • Meets all qualifications and criteria established by the IHSA and Bishop McNamara which includes a background check, ASEP certification/ISBE certificate, and Virtus training. 
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. 
  • Must possess the ability to maintain effective working relationship with school administrators, IHSA, opponents, staff, parents and students. 

Salary/Benefits

Salary to be determined based on background and experience.
