Duties
Safety and Driver Training Officer. This is a 10-month, 8 hour a day position that supports the students, families and staff of Mahomet-Seymour Schools in a safe, positive and encouraging manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as safety officer for the Transportation Department.
- Ensures that state and local traffic laws and regulations are adhered to.
- Inspects school buses for the purpose of meeting safety regulations.
- Implements safe and defensive driving practices with new and current bus drivers.
- Monitors student behaviors to ensure the safe transportation of all passengers.
- Trains and evaluates school bus drivers in accordance with Entry Level Drivers Training (ELDT) requirements.
- Oversees bus driver licensing, training requirements and certificate status for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Oversees in-service and training of all bus drivers and monitors (e.g. CPR, First Aid, discipline procedures, safety meetings, bus evacuation drills, etc.).
- Prepares and maintains documents and reports for the purpose of training bus drivers.
- Responds to a variety of inquiries from staff, parents, district personnel, etc. for the purpose of resolving problems and providing information.
- Performs functions of a school bus driver and/or dispatcher as needed.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent, any further education or experience in a related field is a plus.
- Class B CDL
- 2+ years of driving experience
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience in an administrative support role in a professional environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General bookkeeping skills.
- Ability to maintain electronic records and reports for transportation office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management.
- Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, and a high degree of
- professionalism and initiative.
- Successful candidate will be reliable, resourceful, organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to plan and conduct a school bus driver training program.
Salary/Benefits
Per contract, based on experience.
