Duties
SUMMARY
The Special Education Administrator provides supervision, technical assistance, and program coordination to staff and special education programs within the district.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Orients, trains, and supervises Special Education staff.
- Oversees and coordinates all assigned Special Education programs.
- Conducts performance evaluations in cooperation with building principal(s) that are timely and constructive.
- Assists with Special Education staff placement, hiring, and caseload management.

- Ensures delivery of appropriate needs-based Special Education services for all children outlined in Article 14 of the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5).
- Assists in the organization, coordination, and implementation of all services necessary to provide for the screening, identification, and placement of educational and supportive services needed by such children.
- Collaborates with IEP teams and participates in IEP conferences to assist with District and private placement of students in appropriate Special Education programs.
- Identifies, develops, and implements entrance/exit criteria, transition planning, and other program standards.
- Ensures compliance with Federal and State Rules and Regulations related to Special Education programs.
- Collaborates with District and building personnel to develop curriculum.
- Maintains open communication with parents, District personnel, and community agencies.
- Facilitates and ensures implementation of IEPs and Special Education procedures.
- Provides technical assistance to staff related to Special Education instruction, teaching methods, behavior/classroom management, RTI, inclusion, IEP paperwork, and all other program-related supports.
- Reviews, processes, and maintains student records, program proposals, and program-related correspondence. Conducts internal audits to ensure compliance.
- Identifies and participates in personal professional development activities.
- Maintains knowledge of Special Education best practices; analyzes, identifies, proposes, and facilities the implementation of program and procedure improvements.
- Assists with organizing and supervising professional development programs for all Special Education staff and Special Education content-specific development for building and District administrators.
- Ensures that program-related student, parent, and administration difficulties or problems are investigated and resolved.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Experience with Special Education practices and principles with working knowledge of applicable local, State, and federal laws
- Communicate effectively with a variety of groups including administration, parents, students, and community members, exercising tact and diplomacy
- Analyze situations accurately, understand and solve problems, and adopt an effective course of action within the limits of authority
- Supervise and support a large department
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Work under tight deadlines, track multiple projects, manage interruptions, and maintain accuracy of work
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Operate District technology and assigned software
- Conduct self in an ethical manner
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with one (1) of the following:
- Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBSI) and Principal (PRIN) endorsement
- Director of Special Education (DSE) endorsement
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check
