Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with team and school-wide data teams to help support student learning and growth and instruction.
  • Assists students in evaluating students’ aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing education and occupation plans consistent with such evaluation.
  • Assists students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating career interests and choices.
  • Assists in the scheduling of classes.
  • Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations.
  • Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student’s abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.
  • Assists with the registration and orientation students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities.
  • Coordinates standardized testing administration, data collection and results dissemination.
  • Assists with the school district’s dropout prevention efforts.
  • Serves as a ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Assists in the orientation of new teachers, and provides in-service training in guidance.
  • Effectively balances between great flexibility and great organization.
  • Attends work regularly.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Illinois PEL.
  • Illinois License as a School Guidance Counselor.
  • Masters Degree in Counseling.
  • Classroom/Counseling experience preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.

Salary/Benefits

Work Days:  205 days (183 + 22 summer days*)
*Summer Days to be paid at a per diem rate based on salary placement
Salary: Determined by graduate degrees/hours and level of experience.
FY 25 Teacher Salary Schedule
Salary Schedule for 2024-2025 SY: Step 1 Salary Range for Masters Degree: $47,785 – $52,750 (Masters – Masters+45)

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Building Administration responsibilities of this job include facilitating the development of building, team and student schedules, assisting teachers with data for instructional planning, providing students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with information on planning for high school, career, and/or educational opportunities; administering and interpreting assessment tools; assisting students in developing educational goals and plans.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: programs/services typical to a public school district; systems designed to create and run student schedules; principles and practices of organization in a public secondary school district; general school district policies, rules, and regulations; relevant local, state and federal regulations; and stages of student development, variety of assessment systems.
SKILLS  required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: leadership and organization; analyze and interpret data; planning and managing projects;  operating standard office equipment; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. Proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and inform instructional practice.
ABILITY is required to routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information/data.  Ability is present to manage systemic change and successfully implement reform initiatives that produce significant gains in closing the achievement gap. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
