Duties

Title:  Assistant  Principal at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School

 

Job Goal: 

To provide educational leadership at the middle school level. Assist in the overall direction and coordination of educational and administrative activities, while establishing and maintaining positive relationships within the school community.  Oversee the Special Education and Related Service staff.  Contribute to the development and organization of educational programming to ensure conformance to state and school district standards, as well as overall school improvement and student achievement.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Illinois State Department of Education certification in Administration (Type 75).

  • LBS1  Endorsement preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university.

  • Doctoral degree or advanced graduate work in areas of educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or educational technology.

  • Prior teaching, administrative, and educational leadership experience at the elementary or middle school level.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership in the general educational administration of the school.

  2. Serve as  a LEA representative for  IEP meetings.

  3. Observe and evaluate staff performance.

  4. Work closely with teachers, students, parents, and administrators in continuous school improvement efforts.

  5. Coordinate, develop, and improve the curricular and instructional program, as well as the extracurricular program.

  6. Provide assistance in the establishment of budgets, acquisition of funds, procurement of materials necessary to meet student needs in an equitable fashion.

  7. Administer disciplinary actions in compliance with School District 123 Board of Education policy and the Student Disciplinary Code.

  8. Provide guidance and assistance in the modification and enhancement of established curriculum.

  9. Collect and maintain data on student performance.

  10. Supervise, lead, and coordinate professional learning activities.

  11. Maintain regular visibility and lead family engagement in the school community.

  12. Ensure a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment.

  13. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Familiarity with middle school level educational practices and child developmental needs.

  2. Experience facilitating , leading, and organizing student evaluations, reevaluations and annual evaluations.

  3. Experience with discipline and behavior modification plans and procedures.

  4. Experience with school scheduling.

  5. Experience working collaboratively with student support personnel and related service staff.

  6. Can inspire and motivate staff in a time of historical change in the field of education. 

  7. Knowledge of relevant curriculum requirements, educational research and standards.

  8. Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with a wide range of constituencies.

  9. Understands 21st century teaching and learning using complementary tools and technology. 

  10. Can guide and lead professional educators in the establishment of curriculum and appropriate teaching concepts, approaches, and methodology.

  11. Understands statistics, can analyze and communicate data effectively.

  12. Understanding of best practices related to ELs is highly desirable.
