Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
The individual employed for this position must hold the proper educational credentials, certifications, and experiences to serve as School Counselor for Jacksonville School District #117 or such alternatives as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable. The minimum requirements include the following:
Education & Certification Requirements
- Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling.
- Appropriate certification as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical journals, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts to practical solutions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
- Ability to plan and implement programs based on District and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, and parents.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform all duties with the awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Able to continuously sit and talk or hear.
- Able to occasionally attend meetings after school hours and at other locations.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
