Duties

  • Monitor students who have been assigned to in-school suspension
  • Reinforces appropriate behavior and ensures that students stay on task.
  • Communicates in-school suspension rules.
  • Refers students who violate rules to school administrators
  • Assist students with work assignments; answers questions.
  • Assign and check student work during suspension periods; review student progress.
  • Contacts teachers to obtain homework assignments as needed. Reinforces classroom learning activities.
  • Records information for students entering In-School Suspension, such as grade level, and reason for assignment to in-school suspension
  • Maintains records of student activities and behavior while in suspension classroom; forwards information to teaches and school administrators.
  • Exchanges information with school staff concerning students assigned to in-school suspension; participates in staff meetings as requested.
  • May call parents discuss problems and concerns regarding students.
  • Encourages students to improve their behavior
  • Acts as time-out supervisor; talks to angry students; assists students to calm down so they can attend their next class in a frame of mind conductive to learning.
  • Refer behavioral problems to school administrators
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educators License
  • Experience in a classroom environment with frequent interruptions; required to deal with upset, disruptive or angry students.
  • Experience in working with high school age children
  • Must be able to handle and react to potential volatile situations and take appropriate actions

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits adhere to the Cairo Association of Teachers contract with the Board of Education.
