Duties

The Center is a serving school to the 14 districts in the cooperative. Students are referred to The Center based on an individual district need for a student. At The Center we offer speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, interventions for social and emotional needs, and a low student-to-adult ratio.

Those with Long Term Substitute Licenses are encouraged to apply.

As a Special Education Teacher at the Center, you will provide direct services to students with special needs in our public day treatment program and work closely with the educational team to develop and implement educational programs for students.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Presents and maintains appropriate Illinois special education teacher licensure in accordance with the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Participation in professional development activities/programs to promote improvement to instruction and promote student success.
  • Reviews and revises assigned IEPs annually. Adheres to and maintains the scope and sequence of each student’s IEP.
  • To maintain ongoing assessment with up-to-date progress reports on each student.
  • Attends weekly meetings with support staff to discuss program needs and student progress.
  • Utilizes appropriate instructional strategies and teaching methods in order to differentiate instruction to address the academic and social needs of the students.
  • Maintains a social and emotional climate that is conducive to excellence in classroom management.
  • Develops lessons of substantial quality that are relevant to student needs and address learning objectives as stated on the IEP.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with federal, state, and local guidelines.
  • Works in a manner that is professional and ethical.
  • Builds and maintains professionally based rapport with students, other staff, administration, parents and the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the BHAEC Principal.

Qualifications

Professional educator license in the State of Illinois. LBS I certification or Long- Term Substitute License.

Salary/Benefits

Per the BHASED Collective bargaining agreement salary is based upon education and work experience. 180 day contract calendar.  Partial board paid health insurance, paid sick and personal leave.
