Duties
POSITION GOAL: Interpret for hearing impaired students that have mainstreamed into regular classes
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret the spoken message to the hearing impaired student at his/her level of language comprehension via sign language and finger spelling or translate VERBATIM via signing and finger spelling.
- Reverse interpret (voice) messages signed by the hearing impaired student.
- Assist in communication between the regular classroom teacher and special education personnel.
- Complete student monitoring sheets as requested.
- Attend meetings and participate in in-service education programs for full time employees.
- Participate in workshops for the hearing impaired students and/or school personnel regarding the role of the interpreter as needed.
- Participate in parent conferences and staffings as requested.
- Understand and follow program guidelines for educational interpreters.
- Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Hearing Impaired Department Chairman and/or Hearing Impaired Teacher.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS-
*MUST HAVE VALID ILLINOIS SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER APPROVAL
*MUST HAVE 60 COLLEGE CREDIT HOURS
*MUST HAVE EIPA CERTIFICATION
*MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL AND DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENING

*BASED ON EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, PER THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
