Duties
Start Date: Between April 1st, 2025 and the beginning of the 2025-2026 School Year
Purpose: The Educational Audiologist performs comprehensive hearing evaluations for children who have varying levels of needs, interprets results, creates a treatment plan, and makes recommendations to enhance communication access and learning for children. They are responsible for supporting each child’s educational needs and services, and particularly acts as advocates for their auditory and communication access needs. Educational audiologists who are involved from the time of diagnosis provide continuity for families as their children transition to preschool and beyond.

Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct comprehensive audiological assessment (using specific audiometric measures appropriate to the child’s needs and status) for each child who is referred, as well as any necessary follow-up evaluations, including evaluations with hearing aids or FM systems.
- Discuss test findings and recommendations as appropriate with parents/guardians of each child evaluated.
- Develop an audiological summary of testing and make recommendations, based on test results, to be shared with the school and any appropriate medical facilities or other agencies.
- Conduct impedance screenings with area Early Childhood, Preschool for All, and Head Start programs.
- Advise school administrators and educators regarding the selection and purchase of auditory training equipment, and further be responsible for the electroacoustic evaluation of such equipment once it is placed in the classroom.
- Make earmold impressions for use with auditory training equipment and teach earmold care to staff and students.
- Assess and monitor classroom acoustics and the proper use of amplifying equipment.
- Participate in interagency teaming as appropriate with individual children or programs.
- Oversee department inventory and supply orders.
- Schedule equipment calibration and repair.
- Recommend purchase of new equipment.
- Evaluate quality and expectations of all aspects of the Audiology Department.
- Conduct inservice workshops for teachers or other staff members on such topics as amplification, identification of hearing loss, and management strategies for children who are hearing impaired/deaf.
- Review IDPH hearing screenings from school mass screenings.
- Provide consultation to teachers as requested.
- Work with community agencies as necessary for the provision of medical care, amplification, and education programming.
- Engage in professional learning around BHASED and overall educational audiology job responsibilities.
Salary/Benefits
Per the BHASED Collective bargaining agreement salary is based upon education and work experience. 195 day contract calendar. Partial board paid health insurance, paid sick and personal leave.
